Youth
Pork Leadership Institute
Young pork enthusiasts from around Ohio have a chance to
learn about all facets of the pork industry at the Youth
Pork Leadership Institute, a three-day seminar held in Columbus
in June. Ten young men and women are selected to participate
in the event, which is sponsored by the Ohio Pork Producers
Council.
One
goal of the institute is to make young people realize
that the pork industry has many facets, including
packing, retail, food service, research and communication.
In addition, the institute teaches leadership and
communication skills that will assist participants
in their future careers. Following the institute,
participants will have the opportunity to be youth
ambassadors for Ohio's pork industry.
The
Youth Pork Leadership Institute is open to anyone between
the ages of 16 and 21 who has an interest in the pork
industry. To apply, an application must be completed
and submitted along with a resume to the OPPC office.
Applications are available by clicking
here or by calling 800-320-7991.
Ohio
Pork Industry Queen
The Ohio Pork Industry Queen serves as a spokesperson for
the industry throughout her year of reign at numerous promotional
events and activities around the state. The queen is selected
by judges at the annual Ohio Pork Congress. Contestants present
a speech on a pork related topic, answer an impromptu question
from a panel of judges and are each interviewed by the judges.
The selection of the queen is based on beauty, personality,
neatness, presentation, poise and knowledge of the pork industry.
If
you would like more information on the Ohio Pork
Industry Queen contest or would like the Ohio Pork
Industry Queen to make an appearance at your local
event please contact the Ohio Pork Producers Council
at 800-320-7991.
